The City of Cedar Rapids is one of three agencies in Iowa to receive $364,000 in federal funding to help renters impacted by the Aug. 10 derecho.
“The funding announced today will provide a critical resource for many Iowa renters,” Iowa Finance Authority Executive Director Debi Durham said in a Nov. 5 post on the Office of Gov. Kim Reynolds’ website. “We are proud to partner with Anawim Housing, the City of Cedar Rapids and the Eastern Iowa Housing Corporation to make this assistance available to Iowans in 12 counties.”
Individuals must have resided in Benton, Boone, Cedar, Clinton, Jasper, Linn, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story or Tama County at the time of the natural disaster to be eligible for the assistance, according to Reynold’s website post. Additionally, renters must possess a household income of at or below 80% of the area median income.
The more than $1 million in rental assistance for the state is being distributed through the federal HOME program.
