Congresswoman Ashley Hinson of Iowa has expressed her support for the No Rogue Rulings Act, following her recent vote in favor of the legislation. The Act aims to limit the power of district judges, preventing them from issuing rulings that could overturn or obstruct the president's agenda on a national scale.
In her statement, Hinson emphasized the role of courts within the U.S. democracy as a check and balance, but expressed concern over what she describes as "activist lower court judges" issuing injunctions against President Trump's policies. She cited a specific example involving U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg, who intervened in matters of immigration that had been working under agreements negotiated by President Trump and President Bukele of El Salvador. "The No Rogue Rulings Act will ensure district court judges cannot issue nationwide injunctions and end this latest judicial weaponization tactic," Hinson said.
The No Rogue Rulings Act itself proposes to restrict district judges from issuing universal injunctions, suggesting that their rulings be applied only to specific parties involved in lawsuits. The backdrop for this legislative move is the high number of universal injunctions faced by the administration of President Trump. According to the figures cited, over the past 25 years, more than two-thirds of such injunctions targeted Trump's administration.
In the last two months, judges handed down at least 15 such injunctions, surpassing the total number issued against President Biden during his entire four-year tenure.
