Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, representing Iowa's 2nd District, has voiced her support for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This legislative measure, which she co-sponsored, aims to prevent noncitizens from registering to vote in U.S. federal elections.

"Voting in our elections is a sacred right for American citizens," said Hinson, expressing her concerns about "years of Biden allowing millions of illegal aliens" into the United States. She further criticized Democratic efforts, referring to them as attempts to "maintain loopholes that allow illegal immigrants to register to vote." Hinson emphasized the need to "fight back against this transparent political ploy and sign the SAVE Act into law to protect the integrity of our elections."

The SAVE Act proposes several measures to ensure that only eligible citizens can vote. It includes requirements for state election officials to verify citizenship before providing voter registration forms. Additionally, individuals will need to present proof of citizenship to register for federal elections.

The Act also expands the types of documentation accepted by state election officials, enabling citizens to register using a range of identification methods and birth certificates. Furthermore, state election officials would gain access to federal agency databases to verify citizenship and remove noncitizens from voter rolls.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would be tasked with notifying state chief election officials of newly naturalized citizens, while also removing registered noncitizens from voting records.

The SAVE Act includes provisions for citizens to update voting documentation in cases of name changes, ensuring they are not disenfranchised. It allows for the use of existing identification documents and similar documentation to affirm citizenship, enabling individuals to register without hindrance.
