Improper supervision accounts for 45 percent of playground-related injuries, so it’s important to actively supervise your child on the playground. You must ensure your child is playing on an age-appropriate structure. Preschool-aged children will require more supervision than older children. Dress children appropriately not only for the weather conditions but also for safety. Try to avoid necklaces, purses/backpacks, scarves and clothing with drawstrings that could create an entanglement hazard. A good tip for drawstrings is to tuck them in the neckline of the sweatshirt. Bike helmets need to be removed while on the playground because the play structures are designed for the average head size. A helmet could result in a head entrapment hazard.
