Amal Eltahir, assistant to the city manager for the City of Marion, has submitted her resignation effective May 18, 2022. Eltahir has accepted an opportunity to serve as the city manager in Oskaloosa, IA.
Eltahir joined the City of Marion in April 2016, first as an inspector with the Building Inspection Department. In July 2018, she was promoted to serve as assistant to the city manager.
During her time with the City of Marion, Eltahir was heavily involved in the City’s economic development strategy and spearheaded the development of the Capital Improvements Plan. She served as project manager of the new headquarters for the Marion Fire Department, oversaw the City’s Strategic Plan and was the staff liaison for the Community Equity Task Force. Following the derecho, she played an integral role in disaster recovery by coordinating Marion’s Emergency Operations Center and facilitating the FEMA and insurance reimbursement processes for the City.
“One does not have to look far to find Amal’s positive and impactful contributions to our community, whether it be inspecting new growth or helping manage the City’s growth strategy, she has been involved in all aspects of the successes of Marion,” said City Manager Ryan Waller. “We are sad we won’t be able to see her daily, but we are very excited for Amal as she begins this new chapter in her career.”
