City of Marion recently issued the following announcement.
The section of Marion Boulevard that was closed at 2nd Street for the installation of the new pedestrian bridge has reopened to traffic! The outside lanes remain closed to allow the contractor to continue to work. Thank you for your patience during this closure.
Installation of the pedestrian bridge is the fourth phase of construction on the multi-jurisdiction CeMar Trail, a 3.5-mile trail project that will eventually connect Downtown Cedar Rapids with Uptown Marion.
Artistic towers by local artist Cara Briggs Farmer will be added to the bridge after the project has been accepted by the Iowa DOT.
Funding for this project is provided by a Federal Surface Transportation Program grant with a local match by the City of Marion.
