City of Cedar Rapids issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
On August 10, 2020, a powerful thunderstorm called a derecho — with destructive winds likened to the force of a hurricane — moved through the midwest. The storm caused devestating property damage to homes and businesses in all parts of Cedar Rapids, displaced residents, destroyed the community's tree canopy, and disrupted utilities. The City of Cedar Rapids continues to respond to the community's needs in the wake of the storm.
