CITY OF CEDAR RAPIDS: Bike Share Educational Reminders – Where to Ride Scooters

City of Cedar Rapids issued the following announcement on Oct. 14

The City of Cedar Rapids would like to remind residents that for the safety of all users: scooters, bicycles, and skateboards are not permitted on sidewalks in the downtown core (between 1st Avenue and 16th Avenue, and between 6th Street west and 10th Street east).

Walk Your Wheels Logo This area has a high volume of pedestrian traffic that utilizes the sidewalk and makes frequent stops in and out of businesses. Utilizing the bike lanes keeps sidewalks and business entrances open and accessible to pedestrians. Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards should be enjoyed in the designated bicycle lanes and trail systems, and all users are encouraged to wear a helmet.

As part of the new bike share program, the City has implemented outreach measures to help educate the public on where to safely ride. This includes more than 50 “Walk Your Wheels” sidewalk decals, additional street signage, and safety videos. These reminders are a key component of the public education program to encourage and support pedestrian safety. You can view videos on the City’s website: www.cityofcr.com/bikeshare.

The bike share program expanded at the end of August to include a pilot program of electric scooters. More than 10,000 scooter rides have already been logged on the system’s 30 scooters since August 30.

To report an issue with a specific bike or scooter, please contact VeoRide’s customer service at 1-855-836-2256 or hello@veoride.com.

To report a user riding a bike or scooter on a sidewalk in the downtown core, please call the Police Department non-emergency number at 319-286-5491.
