City of Marion recently issued the following announcement.
Christmas in the Park and Peppermint Walk

Santa and Mrs. Claus will return to City Square Park in Marion for Christmas in the Park and Peppermint Walk on Friday, December 3. This year, Santa will begin his journey to the park with a short Wave Parade near parking lots before arriving at 5:00 pm in City Square Park to light the Peace Tree. He will be escorted by the Marion Fire Department and Police Department.
Peppermint Walk
Visit participating Uptown Marion merchants, restaurants and businesses during this special holiday open house. Stores will be decked with holiday lights, decorations and music making this a great complement to the park activities. Present a receipt from a purchase made during the event at any Uptown Marion business and be registered to win a $50 Uptown Dollars certificate valid at participating Uptown businesses. Receipts can be presented at the Marion Chamber & Uptown Marion office at 1070 7th Avenue.
Family Fun Activities
Enjoy traditional event activities including holiday music, popcorn from El Kahir Shrine and hot cocoa while supplies last. Kids—don’t miss this opportunity to climb aboard the caboose as it’s transformed into the Peppermint Express! Bring a new, warm-weather item (hats, gloves, etc.) to place inside and help Keep Your Neighbors Warm. Stop by the uptown Marion Public Library location for a take-and-make Snowman Ornament craft.
Santa
Santa will usher in the start of the Christmas season with a firetruck parade through town! The parade will begin at 4pm and Santa will make his drive-by appearances at a few designated stops before arriving in Marion Square Park at 5pm. Those who would like to see Santa along his route may park at one of the stops. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at City Square Park at 5pm where they will officially kick off the holiday season by lighting the Marion Peace Tree at 5:15pm. Following the tree lighting, See Santa in his house and drop off your letter in our magic mailbox. Visits with Santa will be limited to a walk through only. Our elves will help guide you in and out of the house and show you where to place your letter. Santa will be available from 5:30-8pm.
