City Council and School Board Candidate Forums Set for October 20

City of Marion issued the following announcement on October 12.

The Marion Economic Development Corporation and Marion Chamber of Commerce will jointly host candidate forums featuring individuals seeking a seat on the Marion City Council, Linn-Mar School Board or Marion Independent School Board.

The forums will take place Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 5-8:45 p.m. at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center, 4500 N. 10th Street in Marion.

Forums will be combined into one night to include school board and city council candidates. The schedule will be as follows:

Marion School Board Candidate Forum5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
BREAK6:00 – 6:15 p.m.
Marion City Council Candidate Forum6:15 – 7:15 p.m.
BREAK7:15 – 7:30 p.m.
Linn-Mar School Board Candidate Forum  

7:30 – 8:45 p.m.
 

The forums will follow a question-and-answer format of predetermined questions while also giving the audience an opportunity to submit questions that evening to a moderator.

The first hour of the forum will feature Marion School Board Candidates. Invited candidates include Bryan Fentress, Shari Funck (Incumbent), Bill Huntoon (Incumbent), and Diana Zrudsky (Incumbent).

The second hour of the forum will feature City Council candidates. Unopposed candidates will be included within the first 15 minutes of the city forum and the remainder of the time will be spent on the contested race. Candidates include:

Council At Large

Dale Monroe

Randy Strnad (Incumbent)

Council At Large – To Fill Vacancy

Grant Harper (Incumbent)

Council Ward 2

Steve Jensen (Incumbent)

Council Ward 4

Sara Mentzer

The last hour of the forum will feature Linn-Mar School Board Candidates. Invited candidates include Geralyn Jones, Kara Larson, Cara Lausen (Incumbent), Matt Rollinger, Melissa Walker, and Rachel Wall (Incumbent). An additional 15 minutes was added to the Linn-Mar forum to accommodate sufficient time for the large number of candidates.

The public is invited to attend the forum. The combined City and School elections will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021.
