Rep. Ashley Hinson of Iowa and Congressman Neal Dunn of Florida have introduced the Ending China’s Unfair Advantage Act. This legislation aims to prevent American taxpayer dollars from funding a United Nations fund until China ceases exploiting international trade loopholes and loses its "developing nation" status.
“It is an absolute disgrace the UN allows China to dodge its dues as a so-called 'developing nation,' despite having the world’s second-largest economy," stated Congresswoman Ashley Hinson. She emphasized that the U.S. should not support programs that allow China to exploit this classification, calling for an end to what she described as an "America-last scam."
Congressman Neal Dunn echoed these sentiments, stating, “China is the world’s second-largest economy. It has no business benefiting from international trade and environmental policies designed to benefit developing nations." He argued that American taxpayers should not finance organizations that give China an unfair advantage globally.
The current designation of "developing nation" permits China to receive financial aid and extended deadlines intended for developing countries while maintaining significant economic and military power. Under agreements like the Montreal Protocol and UNFCC, China's status has enabled it to gain nearly $1.4 billion from the Montreal Protocol’s Multilateral Fund, with the U.S. contributing almost $1 billion as its largest donor.
The proposed act seeks to halt U.S. taxpayer contributions supporting these international agreements until China's status is reassessed.
