In a recent piece published in The Washington Times, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson emphasized the need for the federal government to adopt a smaller and more accountable model of governance, inspired by Iowa's approach under Governor Kim Reynolds. Hinson highlighted the opportunity presented by a Republican trifecta and initiatives like DOGE to reduce administrative costs and enhance economic prosperity.
Governor Reynolds has been recognized for her efforts in streamlining government operations in Iowa, even before the advent of DOGE. By cutting bureaucracy, eliminating regulations, and reducing taxes, she has enabled families, farmers, and small businesses to thrive. "As DOGE takes shape," Hinson stated, "Iowa’s success story offers a proven roadmap to fiscal responsibility nationwide."
Reynolds' government alignment model has led to significant savings and tax cuts in Iowa by consolidating agencies and leveraging technology. These efforts saved $217 million for taxpayers within 18 months. Hinson believes this approach is a viable blueprint for Congress: "A smaller, more efficient government means lower taxes...and a stronger economy for everyone."
Hinson criticized the federal government's expansion under President Joe Biden's administration as costly and intrusive. She argued that reducing bureaucratic layers could benefit small businesses and families. The article pointed out that DOGE aims to cut wasteful spending significantly.
The SWAMP Act is one initiative proposed by Hinson to decentralize federal power from Washington by relocating agency headquarters closer to impacted communities. She cited the example of moving the Department of Agriculture (USDA) headquarters to Iowa to better serve farmers directly.
Hinson concluded with a commitment: "I will never stop fighting for a smaller, more efficient, and more accountable government." She advocates for Washington adopting Iowa's model to protect economic freedoms while ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively.
