Last week, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson from Iowa's 2nd District addressed the House Ways and Means Committee. Her testimony focused on advocating for tax policies that she believes will benefit Iowans by promoting economic growth and allowing residents to retain more of their income. Key points included small business tax credits, investment in biofuels, support for manufacturing, and tax credits aimed at working families.

Hinson emphasized the significance of extending President Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. She stated, "As a mom to two boys, I know the importance of providing tax relief to working families. The Trump Tax Cuts significantly expanded the Child Tax Credit, providing necessary support to millions of American families."

She introduced the Providing for Life Act as a measure to continue supporting families. This package includes provisions such as paid family leave, support for expecting parents and pregnancy centers, along with an expanded Child Tax Credit.

The Congresswoman also highlighted biofuels' role in Iowa’s economy: “Tax provisions that incentivize new investment in the production of liquid transportation fuels – like biofuels, many made right in Iowa – will be a critical component of an energy strategy that bolsters our energy independence and lowers costs for consumers." She noted that this industry contributes over $7 billion annually to Iowa's economy and supports nearly 57,000 jobs.

Hinson expressed her appreciation for the committee's attention to improving tax incentives like the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit and the 40B Sustainable Aviation Fuel Credit. She remarked on ensuring these incentives are preserved effectively to encourage private sector investments in states like Iowa.

“Congress should ensure these credits are driven by the needs of producers," Hinson stated, emphasizing flexibility for farmers while providing long-term certainty for investments.

The full hearing testimony is available online.
