L Street SW Closed

Effective immediately, Thursday, July 6, L Street SW is closed between 16th Avenue and Wilson Avenue for street maintenance, until approximately 3:00 pm this afternoon. Detour to be posted. This closure does not affect I-380 southbound exit ramp traffic at Wilson Avenue.

Council Street NE closed at Boyson Road 

Effective Thursday, July 6, Council Street NE will be closed at Boyson Road for ADA and turn lane improvements. Turns onto Boyson Road from either direction on Council Street, will not be permitted. Through traffic will be maintained for Boyson Road. Work expected to take four (4) days. Access to homes and businesses  will be maintained.

32nd Street NE Reduced to One-Way, Eastbound

Effective Friday, July 7, from 6:00 am to approximately 12:00 pm, 32nd Street NE from Center Point Road to Oakland Road will be reduced to one lane, eastbound only, for roadway paving. Detour to be posted for westbound traffic.

1st Avenue E Lane Reduction

Effective Wednesday, July 5, 2023, westbound traffic on 1st Avenue E will be reduced to one lane between 27th Street and 24th Street for water service repairs. Work is expected to take four (4) days.

Mount Vernon Road Traffic Impacts

  • Effective Monday, June 19, Mt. Vernon Road SE will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Knoll Street and 35th Street for intersection improvements. Additionally, access to Mt. Vernon Road from 34th Street will be restricted. Traffic control will remain in place to help direct vehicles. Traffic signal updates, pavement removal, replacement of the entire intersection, and curb ramp improvements are expected to take approximately 2-1/2 months. 
  • Effective Monday, April 10, traffic on Mount Vernon Road SE from 14th Street to 20th Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction for roadway and drainage improvements. Local access to businesses will be maintained. Work is expected to take approximately nine (9) months.
32nd Street NE from Carlisle through Oakland Road Construction Update | June 30

Current traffic impacts:

  • The north half of the road is closed and all traffic will be running in the south lanes
  • One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction
  • All businesses are open and access is maintained
The contractor is currently preparing the north lanes for new pavement, including removing old pavement, compacting the ground, and adding rock. Weather permitting, the paving is scheduled for Friday, July 7th.

66th Avenue SW Construction Update | June 23

Current traffic updates effective Monday, June 26, include:

  • The intersection of 66th Avenue with the access road is open.
  • The only businesses that have access off of 66th Avenue from the 6th Street direction are the Iowa Humane Alliance and Tractor Supply.
  • Access to all other businesses is from Locust Road via 60th Avenue.
  • Access to businesses on the north side of 66th Avenue, east of 8th Street, is through the driveway of Advanced Manufacturing Services.
  • Access to businesses on the south side of 66th Avenue, east of 8th Street, is through the driveway of LED Crew.
  • The intersection of 66th Avenue and 8th Street is fully open.
Edgewood Road SW Lane Reductions

Effective immediately, Friday, June 9, Edgewood Road SW is reduced to one lane each direction between 16th Avenue SW and 1st Avenue W for the installation of new traffic signals and curb ramp repairs. Work is expected to take until the end of June.

Kirkwood Boulevard SW Closure between Woodstone Lane and Wright Brothers Boulevard

Effective Thursday, June 8, Kirkwood Boulevard SW will be closed between Woodstone Lane and Wright Brothers Boulevard for the installation of an additional vehicle access to the newly constructed Prairie Creek Intermediate School. Work is expected to be complete in August. Traffic to follow posted detours. Contact Matt Johnson with Hall & Hall Engineers at 319-362-9548 with any questions.

Northbrook Drive NE Closed for Bridge Maintenance

Starting on Wednesday, June 7, Northbrook Drive/Northwood Drive NE will be closed between Nixon Drive and Cimaron Drive NE for repairs to the bridge over Dry Creek. Detours will be posted. Work is expected to take two (2) months.

6th Street SW Closed for Intersection Improvements

Starting on Monday, May 29, 6th Street SW will be closed to through traffic from south of 76th Avenue to just north of Wright Brothers Boulevard, for intersection improvements on 6th Street at Innovation Drive, including the installation of a roundabout. Businesses south of the closure will have access from Wright Brothers Boulevard, and businesses north of the closure will have access from 76th Avenue. work is expected to last until fall. Detours to be posted.

Wiley Boulevard SW Lane Reduction

Starting on Tuesday, May 2, Wiley Boulevard SW will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 16th Avenue SW to Williams Boulevard SW for grading and trail paving. Work is expected to last until early fall. 

Highway 30 Westbound On-Ramp Closure from 6th Street SW

Effective Tuesday night, April 18, 2023, the Highway 30 westbound on-ramp from 6th Street SW will be closed for ramp improvements. Work is expected to be complete in August. Detour to be posted. 6th Street NW Closed for Roadway and Drainage Improvements

Starting Monday, April 17, 6th Street NW from 1st Avenue W to E Avenue NW will be fully closed for roadway and drainage improvements. Traffic control will be in place with detours posted. Local access to residents and businesses will be maintained. Work is expected to last four (4) months. 

1st Avenue W Lane Reductions

Starting Monday, April 10, 1st Avenue W will be reduced to one lane each direction from 18th Street W to 15th Street W, as the 1st Avenue west from 18th Street to 10th Street Pavement Rehabilitation and Traffic Signal Improvements project begins. This phase of the project will take approximately six (6) weeks. The full scope of the project includes pavement repairs, traffic signal upgrades, ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, and storm sewer extension. Additionally, select water valves, hydrants and sanitary sewers will be replaced. The project is anticipated to be completed in late fall.

1st Avenue E Lane Shift for Roadway Improvements

Starting Monday, April 10, changing traffic patterns will be in place on 1st Avenue E to the north side near 1st Street E as roadway improvements continue. The lane change will be minimal and not affect the current flow of traffic. Detours will continue to be posted. Work is expected to last until November.

1st Street W Traffic Impact Updates 

Starting Wednesday, September 6, 1st Street W will be closed to all traffic from 1st Avenue W to 2nd Avenue SW, and from 1st Avenue W to E Avenue NW, for permanent flood control construction.  The closure is expected to be in place until fall of 2023. East/west traffic on 1st Avenue will be maintained. 

This phase of permanent flood control construction includes relocating the 1st Avenue and 1st Street W intersection approximately 25 feet to the west to accommodate a future flood gate across 1st Avenue W. Additionally, 1st Street SW will be relocated westward, and 1st Street NW will be elevated over the top of the flood control system.
