Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02) introduced the Informed Lawmaking to Combat Inflation Act with Representatives Wiley Nickel (D-NC-13), Brad Finstad (R-MN-01) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX-28). This bipartisan legislation would ensure Congress considers the inflationary impact of major legislation before it comes up for a vote.
"Too often Members of Congress cast votes on multi-trillion dollar legislation without a second thought for how it will impact the prices Americans pay for everyday goods and services," said Congresswoman Hinson. "With inflation -- caused by runaway government spending -- still bearing down on Iowa families, our bipartisan effort would ensure that Congress considers the inflationary impact of legislation before voting on it. I will continue working in a bipartisan manner to rein in waste and make Washington more accountable to taxpayers."
“Right now, North Carolinians are grappling with inflation and the rising cost of goods and services,” said Congressman Nickel. “Working families deserve to know that their elected officials are diligently considering the impact of legislation on their constituents. That’s why I’m proud to partner with Congresswoman Hinson, Congressman Cuellar, and Congressman Finstad on this bipartisan effort to ensure that Members of Congress have the information they need to consider the inflationary effects of major pieces of legislation.”
“While Washington continues its out-of-control spending, southern Minnesota farmers are facing rising input costs, and working families are struggling to keep up with the cost of gas and groceries. Across the country, Americans are having to tighten their belts and limit their spending because of rising inflation,” said Congressman Finstad. “Far too often, lawmakers are forced to vote on thousand-page bills that are received in the middle of the night with no insight on how the bill will affect the economy. I am proud to join Rep. Hinson in introducing the Informed Lawmaking to Combat Inflation Act. This commonsense legislation would require Congress to consider the inflationary impact of all major legislation before voting on it.”
"South Texas has felt the brunt of inflation over the past two years. I helped introduce the bipartisan Informed Lawmaking to Combat Inflation Act to consider the effects of inflation on pending major legislation that will affect working families across our nation. I applaud my colleagues, Reps. Hinson, Nickel, and Finstad for working with me across party lines to introduce this important bill,” said Congressman Cuellar.
Background:
The Informed Lawmaking to Combat Inflation Act amends the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act to require the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to provide an estimate of major legislation's inflationary impacts prior to consideration.
