Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds Avaialbe for Multi-Family Projects

Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds help cities, counties and states to recover from Presidentially declared disasters.

Disaster recovery funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has been appropriated for disaster recovery from the August 2020 derecho. Linn County is expected to receive about 80% of the $57,566,000 in CDBG-DR funding that has been allocated to the State for distribution.

In Marion, the funds will be used to support both owner-occupied and multi-family housing projects that support persons of low to moderate income.

To assist the City in understanding the number of projects being considered, developers are asked to submit a letter of intent by Monday, Nov. 21, 2022. The letter should detail the project and budget, which identifies all proposed sources of funding. It should also include a site plan or elevations to illustrate the proposal. A signed copy of the Developer Assurance form should also be submitted. All documents should be emailed to Community Development Director Tom Treharne at ttreharne@cityofmarion.org.

Upon receipt of the initial documents, City staff will contact the applicants to discuss the proposal. Several additional documents and steps will need to be completed before the end of the year including a public hearing, obtaining City Council approval and submitting the application to the State.

Further clarification regarding the submittal requirements can be directed to Paula Mitchell with the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) by phone at 319-289-0071 or by email at Paula.Mitchell@ecicog.org.
