Marion Public Library employees were honored with a Citation of Merit Award by the Iowa Library Association on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022. The award recognizes groups or individuals who made contributions to, or advanced the principles of, quality library service.
The team was recognized for their dedication and commitment to providing exceptional library service through both a pandemic and the derecho of 2020. Even when the library building was damaged beyond repair, the team put the community first and stepped up to help in any way needed. They helped direct traffic, answered phone calls, configured technology stations and staffed information tables throughout the community.
Once the community recovered from the initial devastation of the storm, staff continued to deliver library services from five different locations scattered throughout the community.
As Library Director Bill Carroll stated in the nomination, “Staff have persevered and provided exemplary customer service to the community. They should be recognized for their innovative and out-of-the-box thinking. If you ask any of them, they would simply tell you they were ‘doing their job.’”
