Beginning Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, the services available at the Uptown Branch of the Marion Public Library located at 1064 7th Ave., Marion will change.
Library patrons will continue to be able to pick up holds and use the computers, but the collection will no longer be available for browsing. This change will give the moving company time and resources to transfer the materials to the new Marion Public Library location at 1101 6th Ave., Marion.
Public browsing of the collection will resume with the opening of the new location. Other services that will be available when occupancy is granted include access to the entire library collection, on-site programming for all age groups, WiFi connectivity, computer stations, in-house use of laptops or tablets, use of meeting and study rooms, access to the outdoor reading terrace, use of the maker space, curbside delivery service, and more.
Some minor construction work will continue during business hours in the coming months but should not further delay the opening of the facility. The drive-up book drop and drive-thru window as well as the library recording studio and greenscreen room are not expected to be in service by the opening date.
Late last month, the Library Board of Trustees met in a special session and announced that the new Marion Public Library would open on or before Nov. 15. An official date is expected to be set by the board at their next regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 10.
