Employees of the Marion Water Department began flushing the water system beginning Tuesday, April 12, 2022 and will continue through mid-May, if necessary. Flushing typically begins around 8 a.m. and may continue through 2 a.m.
Flushing hydrants is an important preventive maintenance activity that verifies proper operation of the City’s fire hydrants and ensures adequate water flow will be available if the need for firefighting arises. Flushing also removes sediment that naturally accumulates in water mains.
During hydrant flushing, Marion residents may temporarily experience reduced water pressure or discolored water. While the water is safe to use and consume, the Water Department recommends postponing laundry, as the sediment may cause rust-colored stains. To prevent water heater build-up, avoid using hot water until cold water runs clear.
