Join us for the kick off of Marion Business Academy, a bi-monthly program providing short, professional development opportunities on topics that are important to our businesses.

Marion Business Academy is free to attend for Marion Chamber members or $25 for non-members. Content will be presented by topic experts from our membership and is designed to offer relevant, useful ideas you can implement quickly. Lunch and networking begins at 11:30 am with the program beginning promptly at Noon. 

Talent Attraction Strategies with Cherrie Spurlin

If you are hiring right now you are not alone. A majority of organizations are wondering where have all the people gone?  The talent shortage is real, not only skills but bodies, and it is crippling business growth. Yesterday’s recruitment and retention practices simply won’t work anymore! Employers have reached new levels of creativity and innovation in their search for talent and keep it. During this session Cherrie will share the numbers behind the talent shortage. Effective approaches to a positive candidate experience. What an engaging employee experiences is, and her top ten talent attraction strategies.

About Our Presenter

Cherrie Spurlin is an Executive Director at MRA—The Management Association. Those who have worked with Cherrie describe her as a very positive person. She is often told that her enthusiasm is contagious. Cherrie believes people are a company’s greatest assets and true leadership is about taking the time to mentor, coach, and develop others.

Before joining MRA, Cherrie led Human Resources departments in healthcare and nonprofit. Cherrie says that she enjoyed serving those who serve the community, and that servant leadership is at the core of who she is. Cherrie has a master’s in strategic leadership and is currently working on her Doctorate Degree.

Cherrie has presented and taught on many leadership, business and human resource topics for universities, organizations, conferences, and associations in the Midwest. Cherrie led the Human Resources and Volunteer Services team at Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, that was a recipient of the 2017 Corridor Business Journal Award in Nonprofit Talent Engagement. She is a 2021 Corridor Business Journal Forty under 40 honoree.
