Mount Mercy University recently issued the following announcement.
Mount Mercy University is pleased to announce Shawna Patterson MSN, RN, CMSRN as the RN-BSN Chair, assistant professor of nursing, and director of RN - BSN recruitment.
“I am excited to join the Martin-Herold College of Nursing and Health, and to provide support and guidance for advancement in nursing education,” said Patterson.
Patterson brings more than a decade of nursing experience to Mount Mercy, having previously worked as an advanced practice nurse in the acute adult division at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital. She was responsible for the development and implementation of research-based improvement plans, educational needs, and various policies and procedures.
Patterson held the positions of registered nurse supervisor, interim manager, multi-specialty supervisor, and nurse house supervisor at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s.
Patterson is a member of the following organizations:

- Academy of Medical-Surgical Nursing
- Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society
- Iowa Hospital Association - Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders
- American Organization for Nursing Leadership
