City of Cedar Rapids issued the following announcement on October 15.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department is pleased to announce the graduation of the 49th Basic Cedar Rapids Regional Police Academy. The Graduation Ceremony was held on October 15, 2021 at Ushers Ferry Lodge.
Cedar Rapids Police Department Graduates: Ian S. Babb, Brady J. Christensen, Nolan M. Dostal, Dylan R. Hall, Andrew D. Johnson, Brody W. Lodge, Haley A. Mullins, Zachary C. O’Hare, Salena C. S. Watkins.
Department of Corrections Graduate: Silje Lynne
Dubuque Police Department Graduates: Tyler J. Breitbach, Joseph M. Conley Jr., Alexandra C. Pilarinos
Hiawatha Police Department Graduate: Garrett K. Hinrichs
Urbana Police Department Graduate: Joshua C. Baker
West Liberty Police Department Graduate: Samantha J. M. Wheeler
The Cedar Rapids Regional Police Academy began on June 7, 2021 and concluded with this afternoon’s Graduation Ceremony. The Academy included 19 weeks of basic training for police recruits.
During the Graduation Ceremony, the following officers were recognized with specialty awards:
The Academic Award was presented to Haley Mullins as the recruit with the overall highest combined score of tests given during the Police Academy. There are over 35 tests with a combined total of almost 1000 points. Some of the tests are written and some are performance based. Mullins showed outstanding academic achievement in all areas of instruction.
The Physical Fitness Award was presented to Brody Lodge as the recruit who not only had exceptional physical fitness scores with the sit-and-reach test, sit-ups, push-ups, and run, but also showed overall supreme performance every day during physical fitness and defensive tactics training sessions. Lodge excelled in all tests of physical strength, agility, and endurance.
The Top Gun Award was presented to Garrett Hinrichs as the recruit who had the overall highest combined score of firearms qualification scores. Recruits fire over 2,500 rounds of ammunition with their handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Hinrichs was consistent with scores throughout the Academy and logged the highest scores with each of the weapons.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department recruits will be working with field training officers and serving their community on patrols beginning tomorrow, October 16, 2021.
