City of Marion issued the following announcement on August 27.
Crews have been working on some pretty significant upgrades at Hanna Park. Here's a look at what you can expect:
BASKETBALL/PICKLEBALL COURTS
A new regulation basketball court is being installed on one of the new asphalt pads. The court will be marked for both basketball and 3 pickleball courts. The court will eventually be lit for extended year-round play.
SOCCER MINI-PITCH
The new soccer mini-pitch is being installed on the other asphalt pad. This unique small-scale soccer field will be a great resource for soccer players and community members in the area. The court will eventually be lit for extended year-round play.
SWINGSET
Staff will be installing a new swing structure after the existing one was destroyed in last August's derecho. The wood-chip beds are also being re-oriented to contain all playground equipment into one large bed.
RESTROOM/PAVILION
The restroom that sustained damage from last August's derecho and ongoing vandalism is closed permanently. A new shelter and restroom will be constructed in the near future after the existing structure is demolished.
Pair these exciting additions and changes with the existing ball diamond and fitness trail and you have a variety of amenities for all to enjoy.
Please respect all closures as the Parks and Recreation Department works to complete the projects.
