The City of Marion has ruled in favor of a regulation that would recommend locals to use face masks if they can’t comply with social distancing guidelines, KCRG reported.
Mayor Nick AbouAssaly was backed by the Marion City Council when he signed an updated version of the emergency proclamation last month.
The City of Marion pointed to research that has proven face masks that cover the mouth and nose can lower COVID-19’s spread.
“As a community, we have a personal responsibility to one another. Wearing a mask is an additional measure that protects our neighbors and can help us all get back to doing the things that we enjoy,” AbouAssaly said, according to KCRG.
The new regulation suggests residents wear a mask in the following instances: When they can’t be six feet away from others in public, in indoor venues like retail stores, bars and restaurants (even if they are able to be six feet away), and when taking public transportation, rideshare services, taxis, and other private car avenues.
