The Cedar Rapids Police Department has made two arrests of suspects in an ongoing investigation into the murder of Malik Sheets.
Christian Dider Emedi, 17, and Marshawn Ladarius Jeffries, 16, have been arrested for the murder of Sheets, which happened on June 18, according to a press release from the City of Cedar Rapids.
Emedi and Jeffries are both charged with first-degree murder and obstructing prosecution.
The Linn County Juvenile Detention Center is currently holding Emedi for other charges and he has been served with charges for the murder of Sheets.
Jeffries is in custody in Davenport, Iowa, and will be moved to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center for charges for the murder of Sheets.
"According to the criminal complaint filed by the Linn County Attorney, peace officers were dispatched to the residence at 1058 Regent Street NE regarding a report of shots fired," the city said in the press release. "Upon arrival, officers found Malik Sheets on the floor of the living room suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead and an autopsy revealed he died from gunshot wounds to his neck and chest."
Emedi fired the initial shots into Sheets. Once Sheets was on the floor, Jeffries fired more into his body. The investigation is still ongoing.
