Officials of the Iowa City Veterans Administration (VA) said they are relocating an outpatient clinic for veterans to a new leased location in Cedar Rapids.

“The new location will allow us to continue to meet the needs of our veterans and to provide quality access to care for the many veterans who live in the area," Judith Johnson-Mekota, director of the Iowa City VA Health Care System, told KWWL7 News. “Iowa City VA Health Care System is committed to serving those who have served this country."

The current VA outpatient clinic location at 2230 Wiley Blvd, SW, will be phased out. The new location will be at 3500 Dalton Way, SW, Ste. 400 in the Westdale Town Center.

VA officials said the new facility will be two times bigger than the former allowing enhanced services such as physical therapy, mental health, blood testing and audiology. Home-based care will also be provided for veterans who qualify.

"The added value to our patients will be the access to more services locally, like radiology and physical therapy,” said Michele Carter, clinic manager for the Cedar Rapids Community Based Outpatient Clinic. “The increased space will also allow staff to provide greater comfort and privacy for veterans. We will likewise see an improvement in the education and training that we can provide for patients without waiting for available space to conduct those activities."

The new clinic will open Monday, Sept. 14. Information can be accessed by calling VA Public Affairs Officer Bryan Clarke at 319-339-7104.
