City of Cedar Rapids recently issued the following announcement.

The Parks and Recreation Department, in coordination with multiple community partners, will distribute school supplies and backpacks at Rollin’ Recmobile park visits the week of August 10. The event will replace the annual Back to School Bash that the Department hosted annually at the McGrath Amphitheatre. Supply kits will be available to the first fifty children at each stop. Backpacks and additional supplies will be available while supplies last. Information about the times and locations of Recmobile stops can be found at www.cityofcr.com/crrecmobile.

The project combines several local school related campaigns intended to assist parents in providing supplies for either in-person or home instruction this year. Backpacks are provided through the Return to Learn Backpack campaign sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation. A school supply campaign sponsored by Cedar Rapids Hy-Vee locations, SOKO Outfitters and CBS Channel 2 and Fox 28 will provide school supplies in addition to the kits compiled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Macaroni Kid and the Cedar Rapids Kiwanis are also assisting with the program.

The public can assist by donating new or good used backpacks and school supplies at any local Hy-Vee location, SOKO Outfitters, Cedar Rapids Golf Course (excluding Jones), and Cedar Rapids Ohnward Bank locations before August 3. Backpacks will be disinfected before distribution. Details and updates are provided on the Rollin’ Recmobile webpage.
