The Linn County Department of Public Health recently walked back its order for local chiropractors to cease doing business.
The department had ordered the Spine Corrective Center in Cedar Rapids to stop seeing patients after Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds closed all nonessential medical facilities amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Believing his medical services to be essential, Dr. Gene Cretsinger called the governor’s office to seek clarification.
“We had always heard we are an essential service from our state association and international association,” Cretsinger recently told KCRG. “When the county called us, we were surprised.”
The Linn County Department of Public Health did eventually relent, releasing the following statement to KCRG:
"Linn County Public Health had previously received guidance that 'Nonessential Medical and Dental Services' under the Governor's proclamation for a State Public Health Emergency Declaration applied to chiropractic services as well as other medical and dental procedures. After seeking further guidance from the Iowa Governor's Office, we have been told chiropractic offices may remain open for business."
