A Cedar Rapids hotel that is 15 minutes from Eastern Iowa Airport has closed temporarily due to what management has called the “travel environment” that's creating low demand in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cedar Rapids Convention Complex, located at 350 First Avenue NE, has suspended hotel operations because of COVID-19.
The temporary closure of the city-owned hotel was announced March 26, according to KCRG-TV9.
The hotel alerted customers on its website of its rationale for the temporary closure.
“Due to the current travel environment, this hotel is currently not accepting guests for a short period. Reservations are available for future dates,” said the alert on the website.
The hotel’s general manager Jay Anderkin said management intends to restore operations at the hotel, welcoming guests and Team Members back as soon as possible, according to KCRG-TV9.
Hilton is allowing changes or cancellations at no charge to existing individual reservations scheduled for arrival on or before June 30, 2020, up to 24 hours before the arrival day, according to corporate communication.
Individual reservations booked between March 25 and June 30, 2020, for future arrival dates may be changed or cancelled at no charge, up to 24 hours before the arrival day, corporate communications said.
Hilton announced on March 23 that it is partnering with leading companies to connect employees from temporarily closed hotels with short-term jobs. Hilton plans to accept employees back when travel resumes, the announcement said.
