The Iowa Restaurant Association (IRA) recently honored Iowa Sen. Carrie Koelker (R-Dyersville) with a hospitality excellence award.

Koelker was the recipient of the Readlyn Legislator Award presented to her at the association’s annual Tasting Gala and Celebrating Excellence Awards Ceremony.

The awards banquet was held in conjunction with the Iowa Hospitality Convention and Expo at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

“It was a complete honor to be recognized as Legislator of the Year by the Iowa Hospitality & Restaurant Industry,” read a post on Koelker's Facebook page. “This award means a lot to me as my passion has always been Iowa's people and places! Iowa is filled with great places to travel, dine and enjoy spirits!”

Koelker’s website stated that she spent more than 20 years at the Eastern Iowa Tourism Association and the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau, before becoming a senator.
