The City of Cedar Rapids is launching a Citizen Review Board (CRB) to boost accountability and transparency between residents and law enforcement, the city’s website announced.

Cedar Rapids City Council already showed their support for organizations like Black Lives Matter and Advocates for Social Justice when it passed a resolution on June 19, identifying the groups as top priorities. The CRB is now the newest way to back the organizations.

“The Citizen Review Board will impact the entire community. We want to be sure it is developed with input from the Black Lives Matter movement, Advocates for Social Justice members, as well as our entire community,” said Mayor Brad Hart, according to the city’s website. “Cedar Rapids City Council is listening to residents’ calls for change, recognizes that the time for action is now, is responding and will keep working with the community to combat systemic racism.”

The goal is for CRB to be up and running within 90 days.
